ATOM AND HIS PACKAGE Attention! Blah Blah Blah CD
Why is it that everyone who writes a funny song these days has to sell it with a mannered, grating nerd-boy voice? Atom isn’t immune to the Dr. Demento school of phrasing, but fortunately he leavens the Weird Al Yankovicisms with plenty of goofy roller-rink keyboards, and hyped-up heavy metal guitar. If the words don’t surpass the genius of song titles like "I’m Downright Amazed with What I Can Destroy with Just a Hammer,” "The Palestinians Are Not the Same Thing as the Rebel Alliance, Jackass,” they’re nearly as funny. In fact, on numbers like "Deal Atom, You Do Not Want Children. Love Atom,” they’re more thoughtful and poignant than the slap-happy delivery indicates. It’s best to take this brew in small sips rather than big gulps. But when you do slap it on the player, it never fails to bring a smile to your face. And lately, that’s a blessing. [Hopeless]
